Faith formation at St. Alphonsa
The Department of Catechesis at St. Alphonsa Parish is the cornerstone of our community, a sacred space where the seeds of faith are nurtured within the rich soil of the Syro-Malabar Catholic tradition. Guided by the spiritual leadership of our Vicar and the pedagogical standards of the Department of Catechesis, Eparchy of Mississauga, we are dedicated to a singular mission: “Communion with Christ and the Church.
With a vibrant student body of over 300 children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, our program is a lifelong journey of discovery. We follow the systematic curriculum ensuring that our youth are not only educated in theology but are also formed in their unique ecclesial identity. From the youngest “Jesus Kids” to our graduating seniors, each student is invited into a personal and intimate encounter with Jesus Christ through the Word of God and the Holy Liturgy.
With over 300 students, our program is structured into specialized levels of formation:
-
The Foundation (JK & SK – “Jesus Kids”): Introducing our youngest members to the love of the Infant Jesus.
-
The Early Years (Grades 1-4 – “Holy Childhood”): Focused on “Children Helping Children,” under the patronage of the Guardian Angel.
-
The Mission League (Grades 5-12 – “CML”): Joining the Cherupushpam Mission League, the largest lay missionary organization in Asia, with the motto: “Love, Suffering, Service, and Sacrifice.”

We aim to fortify the unique Syro-Malabar identity of our youth within the Canadian landscape.

Extra Curriculums
At St. Alphonsa, learning extends far beyond the classroom. We believe that faith is a living, breathing reality expressed through service and talent. Whether through the harmonious voices of the Catechism Choir, the intellectual rigors of the Bible Kalolsavam, or the disciplined service of our Altar Servers, our children are empowered to use their God-given talents for the glory of the Kingdom.
Students are also encouraged to participate in service-oriented activities, fostering values of compassion, responsibility, and community involvement. Celebrations of important feast days and participation in parish events further strengthen their sense of belonging and identity within the Church.
Our Teachers
Our catechists are more than teachers; they are witnesses of the faith. Motivated by a true spirit of vocation, they aim to:
Enable a personal and intimate encounter with Jesus Christ.
Empower the young with traditional prayers and the Word of God.
Form future leaders who can live as witnesses of Christ in their daily lives.
